Best of Brunei

Culture

Most citizens of Brunei are Malays and their customs, beliefs and past times are similar to those of Peninsular Malaysia. The customary law or adat are dominant in many of the country's ceremonies. Brunei is a fairly strict Muslim country. The Ministry of Religious Affairs fosters and promotes Islam. Other religions are allowed in Brunei.

During the peak of the Brunei sultanates, brass and silver artisans came up with many beautiful and finely designed brass gongs, cannons and household vessels. These products were usually embossed with designs of serpents and animals. Some have verses from the Koran. Despite the decline in many of these crafts during the weak period of the sultanate, yet the silverwork and weaving are two traditional crafts that survived and preserved to this day.
