Quick and Easy Chinese meals (Fast food) In the event that you find yourself alone and in need of a quick meal, Taiwan also offers the traditional Chinese version of fast food. Quick meals are the mainspring of any Chinese night market. Likewise, quick meals are also available at food courts of large department stores. Those who are Chinese illiterate may point to the dish they want from pictures attached to the stalls. However, it would be wise to avoid cramping with other hungry folks at exactly noon when businesses let out for lunch. The best time to have a peaceful and fast lunch would be at 11:45 a.m. or earlier. Chinese fast food is usually a bowl of rice with ingredients or noodles (dried/soup). For starters, there is huifan, which consists of a bowl of rice topped with a selection of meats, fish, gizzards, prawns, squid, a savory sauce, and a small bowl of soup. If you are a noodle person, then try China's famous niuroumien, which is a large bowl of fresh noodles in rich beef broth, complemented with chunks of braised beef, green vegetables, and condiments. International Foods Some people may not be as benevolent to Chinese cuisine as others may. But needless to worry, there are other international foods available in Taiwan to cater for those craving for other kinds of cuisine. Taipei offers a wide variety of restaurants specializing in European, American, and Japanese meals. Pasta, pizza, steaks, and burgers; you name it, Taipei has it.
